At 4 weeks I also had heartburn so bad it made me choke! I was told that Gaviscon and Tums were perfectly fine to take during pregnancy. I also found that chewing peppermint or winter green gum about 10 minutes after eating for about 1/2 hour has helped greatly!!! I now make it a habit to grab a piece of gum right after eating.

I bought the tropical flavor TUMS during my pregnancy ... I took them all the time ... I craved spicy food everyday ... heartburn was the hardest thing ... hopefully it will go away for you ... oh and about the fizzy drink ... I drank only water have there is carbonated water that is supposed to be better for you and still has the fizziness ... either that or weigh your options ... you will learn that sometimes your cravings will override your commonsense ... lol ... enjoy your pregnancy though ... it's a wonderful time in your life :) ... oh yeah and the doctor told not not to drink anything while eating meals ... wait a little bit after digesting and then drink fluids ... it is difficult at first, but it did work ...

I've been prescribed Gaviscon Advance by my midwife which is seriously doing the trick.

Otherwise, drinking water and milk helped, and the other week received an email from Mothercare which suggested watermelon to soothe heartburn. I gave it a go when I was out with my mum and forgot my Gaviscon and it worked!

I'm 24 weeks, and i've had bad heartburn for most of my pregancy.
I find that a small glass of milk calms it enough for me to stomach eating anything, or if I'm not hungry then chewable rennies. They are my salvation, as I hate the feeling of drinking that gaviscon stuff, and they're not chalky like the other tablets.

There are a few choices available. You could use antacids such as Rennie tablets, Gaviscon tablets etc. or try some liquid Gaviscon. Another solution is to eat some charcoal or chalk, blackboard chalk is OK. The final solution is to cook some toast and burn it, eat the burnt toast (dry) five to ten minutes before eating anything else. You are right, fizzy drinks will agitate your stomach. Also avoid spicy and acidy (ketchup, vinegar etc.) food and fruit juice (orange, pineapple and apple especially) as they are naturally acidic and some companies add extra citric acid.

Hey.....I'mm 11 weeks preg and upto about 9weeks I had morning sickness that lasted throughout the day...everything I ate threw back up and was constantly starving because I hadn't kept anything down....luckily I'm just about passing the first trimester so I've overcome the sickness now and I'm getting ready for the cravings lol.....My mum suffered from heartburn in pregnancy and the Dr said that she could take rennies because they are one of the things you are allowed to take whilst pregnant...also my boyfriend suffers from heartburn (he obv not preg ha) and he drinks boiled water (obv cooled down) for his heartburn

go docs tho cos they can prescribe you gaviscon...they prescribed me tablets to stop my nausea....good luck x

Well, when I was pregnant and got heartburn, I used to chew Tums like they were candy. My OB/GYN suggested it because of the additional calcium. It really worked for me, but if your heartburn is really bad, I'd sugges talking about it with your doctor as it could possibly be something more serious.

you should try flat fizzy juice that always settles my stomach, but i personally would advise making sure you don't lay down after meals, keep away from acid foods such as apples and oranges, try a piece of toast and a glass of milk to settle heartburn and try small meals , large meals tend to make you more pron to heartburn
