Let me tell you the basics of self defense that are followed not only in India but every where in the world, if any person resist any attack on his person or person he is interested, then such resistance will not be questioned in any court but will be considered as means of self defense. The resistance should be such it doesn't appear excessive in nature & should be enough to prevent getting harmed by such an attack. Now in your case if your wife has taken a broom in her hand to hit you, use your hands to resist it & in event of this resistance if you have to give her few slaps nothing wrong in it as it will be considered as self defense. You guys think by coming over here & telling your personal stories you'll get some relief is wrong, better handle the situation yourself & give a right reply for any offence used against you. This applies not only to husbands but even to wives who are facing any physical assault or actual hitting from the spouse. The law will not question you if the resistance against such action is in self defense which I have told here. Let the matter go to courts & let your statement recorded regarding such resistance, let me tell you no judge on the face of this earth will say that what ever you did was wrong if your action was limited to using minimum force in resisting such an attack.

I think, that we shall always try to help our family members, as long as we can financially do so and only if these family members do not try to abuse us. We should always be willing to give a helping hand. Look, although they never called or wrote, they are still the family. You can try to help them to start a new life and stand on their own feet. But watch them carefully, as soon as they show an abusive character and just want to come over and live a good life, meanwhile you are supposed to finance this lazy life, you can stop being helpful.
(And you ´won’t have to regret anything, as you have shown your best will and tried to help.)
Regarding the violence: NO!! In no case a wife should beat her husband, as well as a husband never should beat his wife!! She might have a problem with her temper and get nervous or whatever, BUT it gives her no right to beat her man.
The husband should stay calm and wait till she calmed down and then invite her to talk seriously about that incident. The husband should explain her, that her action is humiliating him as a person.
The husband shall ask her, how would she feel, if her husband would loose his temper like she did and beat her?
Finally, the husband should make her understand, that he loves her and no matter what problem may appear, they will be able to resolve it. BUT she has to control her bad temper.
Anyway, women are normally neither aggressive, nor violent against her husbands, so I reckon that this incident happened in a very tense moment.
I am sure, she feels ashamed and after clearing these points, it will never repeat!

Your post shows you are very stressed out, upset, and going through hard times. If you are battered by your wife, you can call 911, she can be charged for domestic violence. Looks like your wife is an abuser. She has serious mental health issues. She needs help! If you have bruises you can call 911 and get help. It is against the law to beat spouses in US, even if it is a woman.

I am very much pained to read your question. Why should you imagine all this unless you really fear the worst? Obviously you have allowed your wife and in-laws too much of space. Put your foot down and assert yourself. Cut it here and now and make yourself scarce if your wife is a shrew and will not listen to reason. Do you have parents or siblings? Seek their support and enlist their help in quelling the shrew.

Nobody has the right to beat any husband or wife. You are NOT responsible to finanically support anyone excepts your children if you have any. It seems your wife and her family all they want from is your money. Get out of this marriage now.

Well for sure she must be one crazy lady in mind!! if u ask me! She needs some therapy!
Beating anybody for that matter is wrong!!!!! we r human beings n have brains... not animals..... Please get help.... If a someone interferes in ur married life and impose things on u then it is wrong... it is not ur responsibility to take care of anyone until unless u willingly do it since the help is needed for those who r in need...... marriage is not an obligation.... ..ofcourse you need to take care of each other mutually...... No way it gives any rite for a wife to hit... similarly no guy shd beat his wife.....

guess what??? let her be something other than a housewife. I am tired of Indian women who have sworn that this is their Devinne goal of life. Women are good with many things other than house chores. she wouldn't have to beat him if she had a life of her own. she should Go out, make friends, get an education, have career goal, make money... this way she ever seek his help to help herparents or anything this stupid....

A wife might beat her husband for a variety of reasons, but if it is not out of self defence, it is never justifiable.
