1. In many places, these fall under the fishing or other wildlife laws and are protected.
2. Wild-caught turtles make poor pets because of the stresses involved.
3. To better understand the stress capture causes, think of it as a kidnapping!
4. If you do this, you make an implied promise to care for it right. Read a good site like http://www.redearslider.com for cares.

if you really want to catch one, buy a butterfly net. you can get one with a three foot handle for about 5 bucks. then just stand infront the the turtle in the water, move your net slowly over the little bugger, and scoop him up fast as possible. but, i would suggest buying one. wild turtles can have diseases and it is not nice to steal one from its habitat. or just do catch and release. i would also add that i completley agree with the people who are saying leave it. as a future veterinarian, i say this: either buy it from a breeder or store, or leave it be. if we go out and catch every animal in the forest, life woudnt exist. how would you like to be taken from your pool and kept in a glass cage? and maybe have an owner who doesnt know how to take care of you, you would die. i also think its sorta illegal to go out and take wildlife.

do no longer ''guard it''. it rather is a wild turtle, why could you even evaluate forcing it to pass from residing in a lake/pond, to an extremely small bowl. that would desire to be like going from residing in a house, to staying in a cardboard field. no longer very captivating, and it won't deliver approximately a satisfied animal. Please take this turtle back the place you chanced on him, and launch him. in case you like a puppy turtle, pass purchase one that is been captive bred. i'm fantastically particular that's unlawful to easily scoop up vegetation and fauna and tension it into captivity on your guy or woman entertainment, anyhow.

Baby aquatic turtles are EASY to catch- without a net- if you know the right techniques.
But, most beginners manage to kill their turtles within a few weeks, and you're a beginner.
So, I don't think I'll be able to tell you how.
Sorry.

I am right behind Errin on this one.
Imagine yourself being kidnapped from your home by a creature so much larger than you who really doesnt understand what your needs are.
The freedom and beauty of the home where you live is replaced by a confining tank and boredom. And that big creature coming by occasionally to frighten you.
