need to carry/ transport large sliding glass window 1 block to my house. Most likely will not have frame around edges. just the glass itself. Suction cups and some way of lifting it on the edge without cutting our hands would be helpful.

i am a glazier by profession.if the glass is actually 8 by 10 the best bet would be to call a glass company.we use dolly's that are designed to set glass on and gloves that are dipped into rubber to protect our hands.you can get gloves like that at home depot or Lowe's. they are normal colored blue.if the glass is old it is more than likely plate glass and brakes into big pieces.if it has a logo in one of the corners of the glass then it is tempered and if it brakes it does so into a million . little pieces.glass is heavy and sharp and can cut easily. be careful. a glass company may cost you 60 to 80 maybe 100 dollars to move the glass for you. we have trucks with racks on them designed to put glass on and transport safely.be safe not sorry. DO NOT use leather gloves they are slippery.

Large Piece Of Glass

I installed windows at one time in a large Southwestern city in residential homes. They went anywhere up to this size. It was hard enough to move them around with frames, we used a fork lift truck. These windows are heavy, the glass and, hard to move.

I wouldn't want that job, not without the frames. Even with the frames it's going to be hard. Good luck.

Wear heavy gloves, leather preferably, keep the glass horizontal to the ground at all times. Keep as many hands on the glass as possible, to keep it uniformly balanced. Do not, at any time, hold it parallel to the ground.

If it breaks or starts to fall, let it go and get out of the way, you won't catch it.

The risks far outweigh its value.
