repentance is remorse or regret. most often, when we go to mass or attend confession, the word fondly used by religious people and priest is repent. well, basically it means to feel contrite over some wrong you've done, and compensate for that wrongdoing. by repenting, you are willing to admit fault and change your ways, and willfully won't do the same mistakes again. maybe, the idea of repentance is for us to reflect on things we've done wrong in the past and present, anything that concerns doing something that is not good or affects other people in a negative way. it is implied that if you repent, God will readily forgive you and your mistakes. it's like more of a reflection, having to really see what you've done wrong, and making amends. =)

Repentance is a deep profound feeling. It is when you feel deeply sorry for doing something that your soul/conscience knows is wrong. We we are children if we do something wrong we know it and we feel sorry by doing this. Our conscience teaches us that certain things are right and wrong. By feeling sorry for what we have done wrong we can seek for grace and become better, happier and wiser beings.
This is how children gain wisdom and knowledge of what is right and wrong. It is an essential element to the spiritual evolution of man, as to progress on this track we must learn from our repentance to change our ways and not make the same mistakes again.

I agree with Big Drew. Repentance is more than remorse or feeling sorry, repentance is turning your mind around and going in a different direction.

Repentance makes no sense unless there is a God. Without God, our sins become just mistakes, just like making a mistake in arithmetic. Making a mistake in arithmetic carries no issues of morality, nor does sin without God.

Repentance is an act of contrition, a penitence. We do such action precisely because we wish we have not done something it after all or we regret of doing it. We wanted to change the evil ways we have done to others. That for me is the very important to do in life. To repent when we are still alive because repentance will not be possible after death.

Repentence is a twofold response where the individual, not wishing to be ostracized and needing the support system found in the relationship with the other party feigns compunction and on a less selfish and solipsistic measurement it can, for more advanced human beings, be true empathy where a highly imaginative creature is able to understand the feelings of another person and regrets having hurt the other persons feelings and more importantly is able to scrutinize his behavior.

Repentance is to turn from what's wrong and do what's right. We all do wrong sometimes but God gives us a chance to do what's right though repentance. God gives us a chance to correct our ways. No one is perfect so we need it.

Many religions require "sinners" -- i.e., regular guys like you and me -- to repent (publicly renounce and regret) their sins as a way to show how sorry they are for committing them in the first place. In Christian churches, sins are "forgiven," but only after confession and repentance. The method varies from sect to sect.

deep sorrow, compunction, or contrition for a past sin, wrongdoing, or the like. I think that we have this because if we didnt then we wouldnt be human. Everyone has this because everyone lives with regrets. I have much of this and I think that if I didnt then I think that I would have no feelings what so ever and life would be one big lie if no one knew that they have made mistakes, they would just be living a lie.

it is a time to look at what we have done in our life and how it affects others...and to repent for those things we have done that have hurt others...it is our time to make right the wrongs we have done and to recognize and learn from our behaviors...
