The simple answer is "it's not".
Mainly it is down to personal preference. Mac's often appeal to writers and journalists as the interface is very neat and simple, and many functions are intergrated into the OS.
PC's on the other hand tend to be more adaptable, due in part to the far wider selection of software and utilities which are available to allow customisation, and the fact that the OS system itself is designed with customisation in mind.
In terms of speed the machine itself will dictate the performance more so that the OS. Currently PC's have access to CPU's and Graphics Cards with far higher processing speeds than the Mac, driven in no small part by the fact that the PC is the first choice of gamers and business users. However it again comes down to personal choice and what you want to do with the machine.

They both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Mac OS X is fairly easy to use, but the programs available to it aren't as many as those offered to the Windows OS. Macs aren't faster than PCs as far as I can tell. Sure, Macs tend to start up faster, but that's because it usually has less startup programs than Windows.
There is no better or worse here, just what you prefer and what best suits your needs. Creative people tend to lean towards Macs, and technical people and gamers prefer PCs. The gap is getting narrower, and it's really up to personal preference these days.

Well, really? Then why did Apple start using the new and fast Intel processors that are powering a lot of PCs using Windows? Windows got a big boost with the power of Core2 Duo. Macs would be biting the dust if they did not jump on the Intel steamroller.

If you are fine with having a limited range of softwares that you can use, then Mac is the best for you. Microsoft is too buggy because it can accommodate many 3rd party applications. Just like the mac commercial says, mac is for "life" applications while pc is for office.

Um, they're not better in overall. It's just a matter of 'some' part... yes, they're proved to be better in video/picture editting but that just mean they're more stable, not better...
faster than PC? i don't think so, if they're really faster than PC, game developers would really be glad to make their games on mac platform...
thats my opinion...
have a nice day =)
