"We don't read Portuguese and I think that's the first thing to say that we haven't read the accounts first hand. "

So Im guessing this statement from a month ago has kinda fallen by the wayside then? (and yes I know you cant learn a language in a month, but clearly they aren't even bothering anymore)

"Madeleine McCann's parents are learning Portuguese as they make plans for an indefinite stay in the country to continue the search for their daughter." Sky News - July 12.

"it felt very similar to dining in your garden and I know that - and if you've ever left a child for any length of time unattended whether it be you're downstairs and the child's upstairs or you're in the garage."

- How big is your house Gerry?? Drawing parallels to leaving your child downstairs and what you did that night?

"obviously our priority is Madeleine but we just felt if there's anything that we could do that might help other children that might make things that tiny bit safer for children then something good has come out of it?"

How noble of you Kate ....... Being negligent has kind of paid off hasnt it? Pathetic Kate.

Faith - I will bet you £100 right now that 1 year from now, if we gave him a test, he would NOT have learnt 1 years worth of Portugese. You know that, and I know that. Care to take me up on it?

And yes I would not condemn them if they didnt think about the broader picture because as parents they should be selfish and only care about their own child until definitive proof is in that she is dead. Clearly they think she is dead already. Wonder why that is?

Faith - How can they afford to spend the rest of their lives there? They have no job? Or is Joe Public expected to pick up the tab?

I'm sure he could pay for a translator from the fund or use his computer to do so - it isn't impossible.

I cannot beleive he is still saying it is like being downstairs! I am downstairs when my son is upstairs in bed. How fecking DARE he liking my actions to those of Kate and himself on that night. I would NEVER go out for my own selfish gains and leave my children unnattended.

Maybe they would like to pay that back to our police force. This couple are disgusting such caring parents who left all their babies on their own to go on the lash. Why weren't they charged with neglect. Money clearly talks. Poor Maddie lets not forget her they clearly have now they are rolling in it!!!

How is it clear to you that they "aren't even bothering anymore" to learn Portuguese just 'cos they still can't read the newspapers? Lame one, Dave.

And you sarcastically call Kate noble when she gets involved in the cause for missing children.... If she didn't, you'd yell about why she isn't sharing her time & limelight with other neglected missing children, wouldn't you?

You can't even bring yourself to be happy for the kids who will benefit from her involvement 'cos you're so blinded by spite for the McCanns. Shame!

Edit: I take you up on it! Next year by now, Gerry will be fluent in Portuguese...whether Madeleine is found alive or sadly, not.
They do intend, sincerely, to spend the rest of their lives there, don't they? Wouldn't you? Regardless of being charged for neglect by Portuguese law or not...Doesn't that speak volumes of their love for their Madeleine?

I agree with Heather. I don't think they want to know the truth.
