The hideous, repulsive baby-like creature on the floor represents the maimed soul of Voldemort that was unintentionally put in Harry that night in Godric's Hollow. As Harry was the rightful Master of the Elder Wand and it will not kill its own master, it only destroyed Voldemort's soul in Harry.

I think it's a representation of Tommy's aka Voldemort's decapitated soul. It's small and baby like because it's split into seven peaces, it's in pain and crying because again it's been badly maimed. Harry felt sorry for it of course because it's a small and frail part of a human being and is repulsed by it at the same time cause of how it came to be like that......kind of like Voldemort himself you feel kind of bad for the boy Tom Riddle at the orphanage but voldemort is a prick plain and simple and deserves what's coming to him.

The mangled, scarred, and tortured baby represents 1/8 of what once was the intact soul of Tom Marvolo Riddle. As he chose to rip his soul apart to conquer death in the mortal world, his soul was ripped apart in the world beyond. Instead of a soul whole and intact (like Dumbledore, Lily, James, Sirius, and Lupin) who could go "on" or return as a ghost, Tom Riddle only had eight broken pieces of his soul after death, where there was no help.
Harry tried to give Tom Marvolo Riddle a final chance to save himself from something worse than death by urging him to go for remorse - the only thing that could repair his maimed soul. You have to say Harry gave him every last chance, warning him about the fate of his soul, and Harry was the master of the Elder Wand. Despite what Lupin said about disarming in times of war, it really was Harry's signature move. I think he took pride in it as his final spell against Voldemort. He knew the Elder Wand wanted it's true master, and wouldn't kill him. Regrettably, he knew Voldemort wouldn't listen.

I didn't really think the book explained, it was one of those you can use your imagination, but I believe it is the horocrux that was inside Harry, that little piece of Voldemort's soul. That was why Dumbledore dismissed and said there was nothing that can be done.

i think it was a piece of voldemort that was left inside harry from the first attack when he was small. his soul had already been split in so many pieces there wasn't much to leave but dumbledore always thought there was a part of him left in harry. that's my guess.

it was what became of Voldemort and his soul (which as you know was inside Harry so when Voldemort cast Avada Kedavra that part was killed/destroyed).
