I feel like the quality of my life is suffering. I answer questions, get points, interact, but...nothing happens! It's not helping my real life offline, or at least, not as much as reading or socializing in person would. Should I swear Yahoo! Answers off completely, delete my account, and get on with it?

I love to be in Yahoo Answers because I am disabled & have a very restricted life right now. It gives me something to do and stimulates my brain. Plus, I have an opinion on just about everything.

If it is interferring with your real life, then stop. or cut back on how often you do it. If you are obcessive about it, then there is a problemm.
Find balance in your life

However, if you will try to assess the time you shared in this site it is really rewarding because you learned so many things in varied categories. You hear different shared thoughts and fresh experiences from individual lives of people from almost all walks of life. If i were you think twice before doing a final thing. You may take a rest and go to other sites. Revisit Yahoo! Answers only if it comes from your heart and mind. You must enjoy what you are doing. Don't use this site as an added problem. Good luck and hope to hear from you the soonest possible time.

I'd not list the reasons why I believe you should not swear it off, rather, I would ask you to compare Yahoo! Answers to any other means of "passing time" at the Internet, and see which is more educative, constructive and knowledge-enhancing.
In real life, passing time at a library is a traditional way of getting educated while "Yahoo! Answers" is a "modern public forum / symposium, and a research center".

Needless to say, we need to be selective in answering questions. The subjects we choose must be educative and of special interest to us.

Well it's pretty much a step up from watching TV, because you're sort of interacting with people and occasionally learning. But not really.
Everything in moderation.
I'm on right now because I can't sleep. What else could I be doing at 5 am?

Can you give a common definition for 'being Productive'?
differs from person to person.

Yahoo Answers gives you a way to share thoughts. Some times, even a small different view can change your life. May be, that point of time didn't come to your way yet.

Too much time onlline is not good, but some good questions and answers can be stimulating at times.

You have a free will. Do what you want, or do what you think is best. This should be your choice and your choice alone.

If it's not doing anything for you then find a new hobby. I personally find it really engaging, it increases my knowledge and I feel I'm helping people. I've only got positive feelings from it.

for me it is.
i can ask questions at times where i can get answers easily and not have to pay someone for help - you have to be discerning and know what you can ask here and what you need professionals to do.
i can answer questions that can really help people at times.

so for me it is a useful thing.
