That would depend on how much and how often. If they drank heavily there is a condition called Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, which causes facial differences (folds near the eyes), can cause mental slowness, and delayed development.
If they only had the occasion drink, then chances are there wouldn't be any effect.
But not having proper pre-natal care (at least for the first 4 months), and taking the right suppliments, and getting blood test, urine checks, might also mean that potential problems may have been overlooked, even apart from the alcohol..

The first trimester is the most critical. There is a CHANCE that the baby could be affected. to be honest, I didn't know I was pregnant until I was over 3 mos(I had very irregular periods and the tests were all coming out negative, even at the Dr's). All I am going to say is that I drank very frequently, and would drink a couple of drinks at a time. When I found out that I was pregnant I was HORRIFIED at the thought of what I possibly did to my baby. It was enough to make me quit drinking period and still to this day the smell of alcohol makes me litterally sick. What I will say though is that my son was born full term at 39 weeks completely healthy. He was a little underweight, he weighed 5 lbs 15 oz. but he is 19 months now and is doing just fine. Unfortunately you will have to wait until after the baby is born to see the full effects that it may have had on them. Just don't drink anymore!

It might be affected, it might not. It depends on how heavily the person drank. Even one drink can harm a baby though. I heard a good analogy once: Drinking while pregnant is like hitting a computer with a hammer.

if you'd said just the first few weeks, i'd say you were in the clear.
4 months is almost half the pregnancy, so there may be some damage. I don't know, but i would definitely check with the doctor. i hope everything is ok with your baby.

The first trimester is the most important one. That time is when the brain and other major organs develop.

Yes.
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome can come from a single night of drinking.

It is possible that the baby would have a low birth weight. But you have to make sure that you quit drinking right away. But the baby should be alright. Just to make sure, I would check with the doctor.
