There's an excellent discussion on Sudoku vs Crosswords here:

I do both - solve and make both crosswords and sudoku puzzles. Crosswords rely on knowledge, sudoku on logic, so different thought processes are involved that make both puzzles very worthwhile.
If sudoku puzzles have one big disadvantage it's that if you make a mistake, by the time you find out it's too late to go back and change - firstly because you've got wrong numbers already filled in and secondly because it's almost impossible to backtrack and discover where you went wrong.

I prefer crosswords. I can do sudoku, but it takes me ages to finish one. Like talking 40 mins for a medium one. I always get the easy one wrong, as I think it' too easy and rush through it, and the difficult one takes an hour.
The thing about cryptic crosswords that I like, is you get to see how the person who set the crosswords mind works. Once you figure that out, the answers are easier than a normal crossword..

Unless it's to do with money, I've always found numbers to be a complete "turn off", so prefer crosswords.
Enjoy some cryptic ones if they are the sort which make you squirm, but my preference are the General Knowledge ones - then I look up things I didn't know and while away a good chunk of time reading about those.

I love them both! If I get stumped on the crossword in the newspaper I usually switch to the Sudoku, and then when I get stumped there I go back to the crossword.

Crosswords, at least there's a bit of variety. I find that with Sudoku, you're just looking at the same nine numbers all the time and it boggles the brain after a while.

I like both sudiku and cryptic crosswords and I do both every day to keep my aged mind supple! I also regularly use my left hand for writing and DIY to maintain ambidextrousness
