I know most people think Germans migrated from Scandinavia, but I have recently heard otherwise. At first it seemed laughable, but then I found that some say they came from around the Black Sea as well so now I'm not too sure.

I also heard that the city of Xanten inparticular was founded by Assyrians, long before the creation of Rome. Any insight would be appreciated.

The ethnogenesis of the Germanic tribes is assumed to have occurred during the Nordic Bronze Age, or at the latest, during the Pre-Roman Iron Age. From southern Scandinavia and northern Germany, the tribes began expanding south, east and west in the 1st century BC, coming into contact with the Celtic tribes of Gaul as well as Iranian, Baltic, and Slavic tribes in Eastern Europe. Little is known about early Germanic history, except through their recorded interactions with the Roman Empire, etymological research and archaeological finds.

Xanten:

First settlements by isolated tribes can be dated around the year 2000 BC. Around 15 BC the Roman camp Castra Vetera was created on the Fürstenberg near today's locality Birten. It was intended to be a base for campaigns into Germania and until its destruction during the uprising of the Batavians in 70 AD it was occupied by 8,000 to 10,000 legionaries, and was the main base of the Classis germanica.

Semitic peoples also migrated to central Europe (southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland). These people were the descendants of Asshur, son of Shem, and is where the name "German" originates. Asshur is well known in history as the father of the Assyrians. The Assyrians occupied a Mesopotamian city on the lower Tigris River called "Kir" and placed captive slaves there (also referenced in 2 Kings 16:9). The city was populated by the Assyrians for many years, and the inhabitants became known as "Kir-men". The Assyrian "Kerman" were driven from their land shortly after their fall about 610 B.C. They migrated into central Europe where they were called "German" or "Germanni", a general name used by the Romans to represent all Assyrian tribes.

The known Assyrian tribes were the Khatti (also Hatti, Hessians)—Chatti is still the Hebrew term for German, and Khatti was often used by the Romans to represent Germanic tribes; the Akkadians (Latins called them Quadians); the Kassites (or Cossaei); and the Almani (or Halmani, Allemani was the Latin name). Today, Germans refer to themselves as the "Deutschen", which is derived from the Saxon word for an "Assyrian". Their country name is Deutschland. The Romans referred to the Deutschen as Teutons. Ancient Hindu literature uses both the word "Asgras" and "Daityas" to refer to the Assyrians. "Daityas" is a Sanskrit word for "Deutsch"—a name applied to the Assyrians over 1500 years before the birth of Christ.

This is from nations of tables. All I want to say is that germans are assyrians. And assyrians in Irak are also assyrians. They both come from Asshur, the son of shem, which is the son of noah. Asshurs descands was assyrians. + Bible make it very clare that germans are assyrians. They probably refered to Hitlers regim when they said that we will attack jews again. And other things shows in bible that they can be the assyrians today. Keep being proud guys. Maybe we all will be one again, and fight against the evil of the world, and for our catolic religion.

In the book "Poland" by James Michner he mentions the Germanic tribes being the guards of the trade routes around the Black sea areas, then being so large, powerful, they began to intimidate the other smaller countries. There always was fighting among the tribes (countries) and some would hire the Germanic tribes to aide them.
Finally around I believe the 12 or 13 century the smaller countries voted to bring the Germanic tribes into one place " Keeping the enemy at hand your able to control him" was the answer so, they all conceded to give portions of their countries and made one state, Germany.

It fits well but, how much is true. I love all of James Michner but, how accurate is this ?

The ancestors of the Indoeuropeans livea around the Black Sea probably mainly to the north. Some of them moved to Germany.

The Assyrians have no connection to the Germans.

Some one probably confused Assyrians with Aryans.

Its more likely to be the other way around.

Some survivors of the IndoEuropean speaking Mitanni people could have married Assyrians?

Whoever told you this probably failed history!
