On the news at Gmtv this morning interview with gerry and kate.
They will not be bullied into going home to Britain by a hate campaign going on. Robert Murats lawyer has told them to go and there is word that the Portuguese police are going to proscecute them for leaving their kids.
They have also started or are going to start a new site on You Tube for missing children

yes i do think that starting up a site for missing kids is good....but NOT on you tube...
you tube is mostly used by young people and it is mostly older people who would be aware of a missing child. if they are going to do that then it should be a site of high profile ...for kids sake, not for them.....with a name that everyone would remember.
a lot of older people dont know what you tube is.......except another name for gerry mccann

no dear i wasnt born then either, its a number not a date of birth
i never said not to involve youngsters, i said they weren't so aware so it would be better on a site that was used by both.
now that is the second polite reply i've given to you, so if you care to reply again then this time don't get sarky, its the lowest form of wit!!

Everyone has different opinions on this case and mine is probably not that disimilar to a number of other peoples but my slant on this is:-
The McCanns are very wealthy and both have good jobs, they themselves have blown this dissapearance into the media. Money talks!!! I do not believe that it is just because she is pretty and 'white'.
The McCanns to me have in my opinion not been torn apart as much as they should have been in the last 100 days and it appears now that people are starting to be honest in their opinions. If Maddie's parents had of been 17 year old 'chavs' and left their 3 children in a room alone there would have been media outrage from the word go. you can imagine the headlines. But how come when 2 wealthy professionals do it it is simply a error of judgement. i do agree that they are suffering for it now and i am certainly not condeming them but who in their right mind leaves three children unattended in a foreign country!!

My view is that the Portuguese police let too much water run under the bridge at the time of the abduction. The Portuguese public is worried about the adverse publicity, so they have run out of sympathy. The McCanns are now a blot on the tourist landscape.
As for the parents wanting to stay there because they hope that a lead will emerge, it is a human reaction. If you had a great treasure that went missing and there still was a chance of it being found, you would want to leave no stone unturned and stick to the area where you lost it in the hope that it would turn up. Also when one is desperate one will try every alleyway open. The McCann's strategy may seem odd, but in such circumstances who is able to judge what the right strategy would be. When you are in pain or eaten by anxiety, rationalisation is not easy.
I have stayed in many hotels where the bedrooms are further from the restaurant than the distance that separated the McCanns from theirs, and I have seen children getting out of bedrooms that were alarmed unnoticed. If someone wanted that ravishing little girl, they just saw their opportunity and pounced. If people were honest, many have taken similar risks, and they were lucky. As the saying goes "Here but for the grace of God..." It is easy for us to cast stones when we are not involved. We are watching this like spectators at a tragedy, who can then go home and forget all about it. They can't.
PS.Edit: Dave S, I never wrote that I approved of the fact that the children were left alone. I just pointed out that quite a few parents have left their child in a hotel room thinking that it was a safe thing to do, and they were lucky that no tragedy ensued. I myself found a small child wandering in a hotel corridor late one evening and called reception. When I met the parents the following morning in the breakfast hall, they were not even aware that their little boy had locked himself out of the room whilst they were eating, because the hotel had not told them how he had been found. This was not "in a foreign country" but in totally English Kent. I could have snatched the child and nobody would have been the wiser.
As for jumping from a building, one could easily say the same thing when one sees someone that desperate. People don't throw themselves down out of stupidity, but because they are at the end of their tether and cannot bear life any longer. I am not particularly religious. The sentence could have read "Here for the grace of fate..."
Where is compassion in all this, for pity's sake?

Thing is its dragging on far too much for my liking, the portuguese police are treating this as a muder, and i don't think they are only going to be charged with leaving there kids alone. What kidnapper kills a kid, then cleans up after himself? And surely the other 2 kids would have woken up, and don't forget all this happened within a 20 interval of them checking up on them, doesn't take much to put 2 and 2 together if you ask me! One more thing, no of the statements the mccans gave and their friends are the same, they all give differne t accounts! Surely they must still be there hiding something, because its not stable to keep those other 2 kids there for all this time, they need a bit of "normality" in their little lives!
Crispy there you go again!!!!! Do you not have any other views?

It's great having a web site for missing children but havin' it on you tube is a bit slack it should have it's own proper official website. I'm not surprised there being forced out i'm sure everyone is getting really pissed off with them and i really do hope there is truth in the word that the police are going to prosecute them, they deserve it for what they done. the interview was just pointless

My only thought for the Mccanns was that they were arrogant. When asked if they were responsible they both said a defiant "no" ! Would the correct answer not have been " YES for leaving her, we will always feel responsible for that".
My heart though went out to poor Kerry Needham that poor woman and her family have really suffered at someone else's hands. She feels that the Mccanns need all the help they can get, still gracious 16 years on.

It's so difficult to decide. There are so many possibilities, I said to my friends about a month after she went missing: if they didn't find her in the first 24 hours then the chances of finding her new are tiny.
What kind of parent leaves their child alone in a hotel room in a foreign country. My parents did let me stay home alone untill I was 13 and that was only for 1 hour max.
Was it possibly that Maddie let herself out? If she was really abducted for a purpose (child sex trade etc.) wouldn't they have gone for the younger ones who hadn't known 'mummy' so long.
EDIT:
A friend of mine said that she heard that she might have been used as a child organ donor because the organs are so rare from young children they abduct children and sell their organs on the black market.

Didn't see it.
They certainly should be brought to account for leaving their kids - the fact that its just been brushed aside as incidental and not told clearly they were wrong is a bad message to send to parents thinking its ok to leave kids alone in this way.
I am sure the Portugese are fed up with them - they have come up with a really bizarre PR campaign that people just don't get on any level.

Here's a thought - why not just allow yourself to think that there are two people who have lost a child. They probably have not killed their child - if they were guilty, they would make sure to fit the stereotype of grief stricken parents. Is there no kindness or compassion?
Their little girl is missing, yes, I know that the parents are clinging to the hope that some kind person has them, but that is a false hope. The reality is too awful to think about.
Yes, they left their sleeping children in their beds while they ate their dinner with their friends, not so far away. If that is neglect, well then, so be it. They can face the consequences for that. But for heaven's sake, there is no script for them to follow, no plan. You might not like them, but in the same circumstances, would you behave in a way that would appeal to the majority of the public? And if not, is it a guarantee of your compliance in a crime?
Instead of evil, why not look for the good?

For that to be real then the alternative of indifference could could be love yet it is no longer unavoidably real. the alternative of indifference could be a sort of distinctive thoughts, which contain love and hate. Seeing the way you're able to evaluate indifference to be the alternative of the two hate and love (and compassion and so on.) then indifference could may be the midsection floor for all thoughts to fulfill. it is no longer completely the alternative of affection.

Wise Owl - Im sick to death of hearing this quote.
'As the saying goes "Here but for the grace of God..."'
Do you see someone jump off a building and say that too? Of course not, because you would not be that stupid.
So why repeat the saying in this situation?
I can't remember thinking to myself 'Thank God, because the last time I was on holidays, I too left the children to their own devices, all of them under 4, while I got pissed at the bar. That could so easily have happened to me.'
Its pathetic. They were negligent. And Im not. Thats the difference between me and them.
