I try to be honest and caring. We seem to be becoming more of a separatist society. Technology is wonderful, but it can isolate us if we're not careful. Humans are social creatures. I believe that its the simple things which improve the lives of others on a daily basis. i.e. a genuine smile to a stranger, an offer of help to a neighbor, a thank you note, a hug, a free meal, and just being real about who you are and what you stand for.
We're all so PC these days that sometimes we mask who we are behind smiles and superflous courtesies.
I say its not just the thought that counts, but the gesture that follows it.

Anything can give others lives improvement and meaning. A simple smile or hello can brighten up someone's day. Some encouragment to people working hard, would make them work harder. Also, maybe listening to someone who has something to say will help them. Anything can improve someone's live. There's no one universal action that will gurantee that it will improve someone's life. It depends on the person and situation. I believe it's more of a secondary result because your main goals should be your own personal goal and helping people should be secondary. However, it could be a main goal if you want, it's your choice

One I actually listen when people speak to me. I hear them. I care.
I think I have been effective in diffusing situations by calming people down.
My partner has an extremely stressful job, and comes to me as his sounding board when he is about to do something extreme. If someone pisses him off I ask him to consider that the other person might be having personal problems that are affecting job performance, attitude, etc. I try to calm him down, while being understanding to his feelings. I believe I have saved people their jobs.
I do volunteer work to help others hopefully improve their lives. Boost their confidence, let them know I care and that I believe they can do whatever it is they want to accomplish. People need others to believe in them, they need encouragment and need someone to have their back. I do try to do that.
My main goal is to help others, the secondary result is when they succeed I share their joy.

I make a difference in people's life when I have had a bad experience and I can understand what they have gone through. For instance I woked with teenagers with family drinking problems. Resently I have a friend whos son age 19 was killed in a car accident. I lost my 21 yr old son 5 years ago. I can understand her pain and I can tell her that certian things are ok to be felt or what is part of the grief process.
I have done many things to help others from what I have gone through in life. I do it for two reasons......God Calls me to love others. Also, in helping others I feel a sense that the horrible thing I went through is not for nothing......but something good can come of it.

Listen without judging before opening the mouth. Don't give opinions without being asked. When asked, give more knowledge than opinion.
The best way to live becomes the primary goal after it's benefits are felt.
