Einstein's search for a Unified theroy of the universe bears a parallel to, when I once searched for my spectacles for a long time and did not realised that I was wearing these Glasses on my nose all the time.
Einstein had the secret of a Unified theory all the time in his cosmological constant and did not realize it.
He may have been swayed By Hubble. It was unfortunate, he had worked so hard in the field of Theoretical Physics.

It is almost unbelievably complex to bring all known physical phenomena together in one theory. Nobody has come close to solving the problem. String theory, and some other approaches, are frameworks upon which a theory may someday be hung, but the framework isn't complete, let alone a theory.

Einstein tried to form a generalized theory of gravitation that would unify the gravitational and electromagnetic forces......but his theory failed because it failed to account for the nuclear forces in quantum physics.
