i knew someone from Kenya - and she says that its true you cant leave hospital till you have paid your bill. But more worryingly is getting to hospital - if you have an accident when the ambulance arrives they check to see if you are poor and if so they wont even take you to the hospital until they are sure you can pay - nice in event of heart attack etc. eh?
I have found out that if you die whilst in hospital - your relatives have to pay the bill for treatment before they will release the body.

OMG!!! 20k, you should have checked into guatanamo bay, they have excellent FREE health care there lol. Were you advised when you purchased health insurance that you weren't covered? I have no idea what they can do but I would try and get the insurer to foot the bill. They LOVE to get out of having to pay out so make sure they are legit that they are not responsible for Pre-Existing conditions. I just cannot believe it, a 20k hospital bill!!! it is beyond belief that America is not classed as a 3rd world country.

It is true you cant leave until you have paid your bill and i understand that some people sneak out if unable to pay!

No you can't.
But if Nigeria was getting fair trading for their resources...Especially their oil...Maybe their hospital system could change.
