1)8x - 3 = 4x + 17
8x - 4x -3 = 17
4x - 3 = 17
4x = 17 +3
4x = 20
x = 5
2) 9.8x + 2 = 3.8x + 20
9.8x + 2 - 3.8x = 20
6x + 2 = 20
6x = 20 - 2
6x =18
x = 2

8x-4x = 17+3
4x = 20
x = 20/4 = 5
2) 9.8x+2 = 3.8x+20
9.8x-3.8x = 20-2

x = 18/6 =3

2. Divide or multiply if necessary to get " x = " something.
