Back when I was a little girl & Police Woman with Angie Dickinson was first on the air in the 1960's I wanted to be a police woman just like her.
Forensic Science fascinates me more now.

A forensic scientist. At least I could touch the evidence & figure out what happened "in the middle of all the action"

Assuming there is no difference in salaries, I would rather be a police officer... I'm not getting close to any smelly dead bodies for long periods of time like forensics people.
...But on the other hand... some cops strive to be detectives... and detectives perform some forensics duties in many cities.

The officer, I might be able to save the victim. The scientist would just be able to find out who should be thrown in jail.

definitely a forensic scientist. i'm very anti-violence and scared of guns, etc. i think it would be very cool to do the kind of stuff they do in CSI anyway
