They are called red ear sliders, and most likely no it is not safe. They usually eat fish. Not always, but I wouldn't risk it.
Also they produce a TON of waste, so if they don't eat the fish, they will prob dirty up the water enough to cause problems.
If you refering to China town in LA, you bought illegal turtles. In the state of CA it is illegal to sell a turtle if it is less then 6 inches.
The two turtles need a very large tank or pond and a large filter to be healthy. They will reach about 12 inches when full grown. They also need an UV light to remain healthy or be allowed to bask in the sun.
I think they are cute little guys, but most people do not realize how large they get and how much upkeep they need to thrive.
They either die or become really unhealthy if not properly taken care of. And after they grow big the novelty wears off and no one wants them anymore. It's rather sad...
I really only suggest having one if you have an outside pond they can live in.
Good luck with them, but if you like your fish keep them out of the tank!

As long you have a basking area that can go in and out of the water easily. Mine they were the size of the quarter and I put them right away now one is 7 inches and another one is 3.5 inches. But if you meant a fish tank community no ooo they will die. But if they can live with fish once they are a little bit larger. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9094506745677561129&q=turtle+tank&total=779&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0

are you planning on putting them with fish? if you do, you'll probably lose them coz the turtles will try and eat them. How big is the tank you're planning on using? i think the ones they have in chinatowns are usually red eared sliders and those need bigger tanks. bigger than 20 gallons even!

Heaven's, NO! purely bypass to dollar Tree and purchase some bags of flat marbles. that's what I put in my Betta tanks, and it looks great! i'm hoping your tank is a minimum of two.5 gallons, or bigger, with a heater and mushy clear out. that's what a Betta should be healthful and happy. no longer something much less!

nooooooo, don't put them in with fish, they will rip your fish apart, I tried it actually myself and learned the hard way
Start of with a 10 gallon tank with a baskingplace and a filter, and for the months of October to April you will need a special heater for them
Hope that helps
good luck
