And, if possible, about how long would it take to walk if you kept at a steady pace, resting at night, stopping occasionally for rests, just a rough guesstimate.
Thanks!

ok i just mapquested it and it said it's about 18 miles between those two cities if you avoid tolls and highways which i would expect you would...lol. Walking...goodness i would think it would take you quite a few hours...depends on how fast you walk...if you walk 2 mi/hr you'd get there in 9--non stop....perhaps you should make it a 2 day thing...start and when night falls check in some place and then begin again the next day

Berlin inner city is about 30 km from east to west, which equals about 18 miles. From the western outskirts of Berlin it is not much further away from Potsdam city centre, maybe another 15 km (about 10 miles). So at the worst you are looking at around 30-35 miles over flat country. I've done this distance fairly easily with a bike in a few hours (from Berlin-Marzahn to Potsdam Hbf), don't know how long it would take to walk. If you started at 5am and walked until midnight (including the appropriate breaks), you might make it in a day, though. The S-Bahn takes 1hr 15 min from Marzahn (district in the east of Berlin) to Potsdam Hbf, so it is quite a distance.

I don't know why you want to walk this - S-Bahn is the way to go if all you want to do is to see Potsdam. It is cheap too, only 2,70 EUR one-way to Potsdam. If it is for sport, I would recommend taking the bike instead. There are several companies renting out bikes in Berlin, just ask around.

A small problem might be that you need to get off the highway if you're walking; so you have to consider that. In addition, Berlin a huge city and practically borders Potsdam, so I am not so sure what is "18 miles here". From some places in Berlin (the furthest away) it might be in fact closer to 50 miles; from others it is half a mile.
