Teno is correct- the 7950 is a high-end series of cards, while the 8600 is just midrange. The 7950GT is much faster than the 8600GT, so normally this would be a no-brainer win for the 7950.

But..... the GTS model seems to be a different story. It might actually be worth going with the newer 8600GTS and having the DX10 support for whenever that actually begins to matter (currently it doesn't) In that price range don't forget the Radeon X1950, which is still the performance king.

Now if you were talking a 7950GT vs the 8800GTS, that's a different story- the 8800 series cards are awesome performers.

I suggest the 8600 especially if you have Vista because it supports Directx10. There's a $45 rebate on it, you know?
Read the reviews and see how the people who bought the cards liked or disliked them.

dude...the 7950 GT is SO much better than the 8600 GTS...the GTS has a bit better performance than the 7600GT which is below the 7900GS which is below the 7900GT which is below the 7900GTO which is below the 7900 GTX which is below the 7950 GX2...the 7950 is like...the GT except with special features like HDCP and stuff like that...go with the 7950GT and instead go for the regular GT and not the OC version because you can just overclock it yourself, for free, not having to pay the extra like 60 bucks

The Geforce 580 GTX is a sturdy pictures card, yet 2 radeon hd 6950s will defenetly grant greater advantageous overall performance. i could take great thing with regard to the crossfire and pass with the two radeons.
