Is my boss a moron?

Question

A whole gob of people quit in the factory I work at. We have only 4 people to run 11 machines on my shift. Today my boss says we seriously need some help. Later we were in the back when 3 guys walked in and said they need jobs badly and were willing to do any kind of work. My boss didnt have them go to the front to complete an application,he told them he wont hire someone that walks in the back door like some bum of the street and sent them away.

So we at work think he is stupid and were pissed.
Do you agree?

CS: You have no choice but to hire someone who walks in off the street. They dont magically appear,they freakin walk in looking for employment just like these guys did. He should have sent them to the front office for applications.

I don't know... maybe I should try to get on there. Would have already if it weren't only 6 freakin' 50 an hour for factory work. That's just rediculous. That and I'd probably get stuck working with Littlefawn.

He might not be the best boss in the world (judging by the 'gob' of peaople that just quit), but I wouldn't hire someone that just strolled in off the street. It's called "Warm Body Syndrome" ... putting any 'warm body' in a position just because you are desperate leads to other problems down the road. It can reduce company morale, and they aren't likely good employees (since decent workers tend to put a little more effort into a job search). It's better to search for qualified people and follow the correct channels.

I'd say your boss is stupid if they seemed like respectable people who just happened to head to the wrong door....Maybe they thought the hiring supervisors would be in the back. (which they were right)

If they looked scuzzy or like bums.. then best to pass
I believe in judging books by there covers when it comes to Business -- 99% of the time you are correct.

I know a lot of warehouse/industrial businesses that don't always have someone at the front counter.

I use to deliver pizzas and if I went to the front desk or stood around waiting for someone to acknowledge me.. I'd have a lot of cold pizzas. -- If it was industrial... I'd drive to the front.. look inside.. if I didn't see anyone.. i'd drive to the back. 99% of the time this was the TRUE business end of the company.

I would think that if a 'whole gob' of people walked off he may be concerned with some kind of legal action that is about to take place and if he hires anyone it could subject him to further legal problems. Though I agree he could have said it in a more respectable way.

Yes that is stupid. At least they were trying to find work, he should have given them the benefit of the doubt and gave them the chance to apply. But after leaving the guys should have just walked back in through the front door : )

Sounds pretty stupid to me. Those guys should have left and gone around the front and filled out applications just to see if that made a difference to your idiot boss.

ever notice how the people that have the most power say and do the dumbest things?
i.e. george bush and pretty much every other politician on the planet.
it's because they got so full of themselves and the position they are in that they forgot how to think.

yes.... i do think he's a moron. a very BIG moron. even if it turned out after reviewing their credentials that they weren't right for the job, he still shouldve had them fill out an application...... how can you judge by appearance? we all look like slobs on some days *rolls eyes* what a goob.
