This is the most comprehensive report I have in my collection related to microwave oven safety. Scrolling way down toward the end, you'll find some sobering findings. Many of my friends are scientists and none of them will use a microwave oven due to the nutritional damage caused to food and to known cover-ups about other problems with their safety. They are banned in many nations. I no longer use a microwave oven after reading this report:

I can't guarantee it because I am no scientist, but I think this is just a common misconception. I have worked as a line cook for most of my adult life, standing right in front of microwaves that are perpetually on during busy times. So, of course this issue has concerned me, so I researched it a while back. Most of the research I did was on-line and stated that microwaves are generally non-threatening because of the lack of evidence. In fact, here is a link below to an article that claims there is no link between cancer and microwave radiation.

No it's the food that you cook in the microwave that don't help you very much with your health.

If you over-ride the safety mechanism and stick your head inside I guess you might age somewhat.
