The Number of the Beast is a concept from the Book of Revelation of the New Testament of the Christian Bible. The Number is 666 in modern texts, although 616 and 665 appear instead in at least one ancient source. This topic is a source of contention for many church groups and theologians.[1] Scholars contend that the number is a code for the Roman Emperor Nero,[2] a view that is supported by the Roman Catholic Church.

According to Revelation the number 666 (other manuscripts say 616) is the number of a man who is identified with the Beast. Semitic letters have numerical values, so assigning a number to a man was a way of giving someone's name in code. Most scholars believe that the number of the beast equates to Emperor Nero, who so badly persecuted Christians. His name in Greek when transliterated into Hebrew, retains the value of 666, whereas his Latin name transliterated into Hebrew,is 616. Others have suggested that the number 666 refers to the year in which the Umayyads came to rule the Islamic world, transforming the religion of peace into something else.

Well I don't dought those people who have posted above me. But I have heard a few diffrent things then that. One thing had to do with Alister Crowley yes 666 had been known as a bad number before but he came up with some theories and did this investigation on his own and popularized it I guess you could say i'm sorry I don't remember the details it been a while since I have read the book that I read it in.

It is not a satanic number. It is the number of a man. Meaning "A particular man," and the man John the Beloved referred to was Solomon:
Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred threescore and six talents of gold. (I Kings 10:14)
A lot of people think it is bad because of Revelation 13:18:
13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
So they have made a mistake in reading the verse.
Look carefully at the actual text, and you will note that John did not write “666 (“six hundred threescore and six”) is the mark of the beast, nor did he say “666” is the number of the beast. He specifically and purposefully wrote that the number “666 corresponded to” the “number of the beast, which is the number of a man, and his number is six hundred threescore and six.” Neither did John say: “is the number of man (as in ‘mankind’),” but he specifically wrote: “is the number of a man,” meaning a particular man.
That particular man to whom John was pointing those who “hath understanding,” is Solomon. “His number” corresponds to “money,” as in the amount of “gold” he received in a one-year period.
So you have nothing to worry about concerning '666' except that without money to buy food, clothing, and shelter, you would probably die.

Because the Bible (later versions) calls it "the number of the Beast" and says that is how the Anti-Christ will be identified.
Originally it was 616 which using Hebrew numerology of the time is Caligula (the Roman Emperor at that time) but in later manuscripts it was changed to 666 to signify the Emperor Nero.
So those still waiting for the anti-Christ have missed him by a couple of thousand years!!!

666 isn't satanic. That's another Christian myth. It referred to the Roman Emperor Nero.
