don't do Ovie that's weird. I'd go with slap shot, cap, or Bonzai for Bondra

I named my dog Teppo after Teppo Numminen but I was a huge jets fan. A pug huh? Try Iron Mike after Mike Keenan or Tiger after Tiger Williams.

Since it's a pug, name it Ricci since they will undoubtedly look alike. I would consider the earlier answer of CuJo as well. The double meaning with a dog that small works.

I like Slapshot out of the ones listed so far.
I'm not creative enough to come up with any right now.

Name the dog blade. Ovie sounds like you are naming him after an ovary.

I wouldn't name him after a player. Most of them come and go. I would come up with something more original than a persons name. If you get a white one call it Icing. If it is black call it Rubber, or Vulcan for vulcanized rubber.
Here is an odd name "Shinney or Shinny" it means informal name for hockey or street hockey.
