Our country has been declining for some time now. It's still the greatest place to live and I'm proud to be American but I sure would like to have back what we lost. I honestly believe it started in 60's with the decline of the family. The fact that we are no longer patriotic is a sign that we need to wake up real fast!

Look...you know as well as I that things could not be as "dandy" as they were in the 50s. Even then Elvis came out and the parents hated him and his provocative dance moves. the baby boomer kids were sick and tired of being supressed by the old traditions of their parents for so long...I mean honestly how long can one live a "leave it to beaver" type lifestyle? Not long. You are also forgetting that along with the hippies, sexual revolution and drugs came the civil rights movement and more rights for women which was a great thing. After America had been in the clutches of "tradition" so long they needed a change. You are also forgetting that we did not win the Vietnam War...that can be proven by all of the deaths and you can not fight an idea. Yes drugs are a problem and so are illegals but does that mean America has lost it's pride? No way! Just because we do not have only 3 t.v. channels, have more technologies, are more industrial, have things in spanish, are accepting of different races, sexual orientations and sexes and just because baseball is not as popular as is once was does not mean we have lost our pride. We may be "different" than we once were but you should no lose faith in people's patriotism and compssion for one another. Pretty much everyone I know is a decent, caring person. Just because things are different now than in the 50s does not mean that they are "bad." We just need to accept change in our country.

Have you been under a rock for a while? There is still a whole lot of patriotism in the country.
We are by far the most patriotic country in all of Western civilization. Didn't you see how we responded after 9-11?
But just because we love our country doesn't mean that we have to love our president or the way our government is being run.
And as far as drugs go, they have been abused since our country was founded, it just was very private and not discussed. But millions of people throughout the late 19th and early 20th century were addicted to drugs such as morphine, cocaine, heroin, and opium.
The thing that I believe you think is the source of our loss of patriotism is liberalism. Liberalism is just something that comes when we become more sociologically developed and it has been developing for centuries.
Ever since the Renaissance society has become steadily more liberal. The 14th century was more liberal than the 13th, the 19 more liberal than the 18 and so on so forth.
This will continue steadily onward and we should be proud of that. It is proof that we are becoming more tolerant, accepting and more understanding. The greatest feats in all of human history happened in times of great understanding and liberalism and it is something that we shouldn't try to fight.

Well there are a few of us left at least who havent lost our pride in being American! But I think it all started some time ago when we started allowing the "big business" lobbyists and "bleeding heart" organizations to approach career politicians in the senate and congress. Then we started electing career lawyer politicians instead of "statesmen" as our representatives!

If you study history, particularly contemporary reports, malaise and unease and distrust of the way things are changing has been a frequent, recurring pattern in our society since its founding. Unfortunately, most people don't become aware that we ever had less than a rosy past (hear the faint sounds of the Happy Days theme?) and that tends to increase their dissatisfaction with the present.

Much of it came when we started entering into armed conflicts when neither we nor our allies had actually been attacked. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq--these are not the same kinds of wars as WW1 and WW2, and we have less to be proud of in our involvement, no matter how proud we are of the actual soldiers.
Right along with Vietnam, we had Watergate. Also not a great cause for pride.
Finally? We haven't had a leader who could consistently make us feel more or less united since Reagan.
ETA: The drug usage isn't necessarily linked. Opiates were a common form of medicine (and addiction) in the 1800's. After WW1, we had quite a few morphine addicts. There have always been drugs on the American (and the world) landscape. We're just noticing it more now. Also, it's been fairly common for the initial generation of immigrants to speak their home language, and only the *second* generation to be fluent in English. My dad used to tell me about his friend "Swede" Davis, in an iron-mining community in Minnesota, who had to translate for his first-generation-American parents. We're just more impatient now.

I'm afraid you're lost in the sauce.
There was no entire ruined generations.
Most Americans still speak English.
There are 12 million illegal immigrants. Hardly an INVASION. The other 288 million are running the country.
Most Americans ARE patriotic. Just because they may not agree with you doesn't mean they hate their country.
In other words, take a break from the Internet dude, it's making you hallucinate. What you're worried about, doesn't exist.

So you're saying someone coming here from another country to try and have a better life is making our country un-patriotic? Must I remind you of the reasons the very first settlers came here? We're more diverse. So what??
And you're also wrong about only a few caring.
But yeah, I find it hard to be patriotic in this big, fat hypocritical nation anymore.
