They think he's the "Daddy" candidate they've been waiting for to save them from "None of the Above." Plus, a lot of them think he's the only candidate that's got a chance to beat Hillary. Trouble is, he seems to be a very lazy man who has some interesting reasons as to why he wants to run a "different" kind of campaign. He thinks he can come in late and avoid the media vetting. He doesn't want to answer questions about his past lobbying activities, or the fact that he used to be pro-choice, or his questionable activities during the Watergate hearings, or how liberally he voted as a Republican senator. He's brought in about half the money he projected he would bring in for his exploratory committee and he's got problems keeping his campaign staff because his wife is a bytch on wheels. First he was going to announce after July 4th, now it's September. And I'm with you. Nine out of ten conservatives who think he's the answer to their prayers can't even tell you what he stands for or where he stands on the issues. They're so desperate for a viable Daddy candidate, they don't care. All most of them know is that he is a conservative, at least for now.

On Abortion: "Government should stay out of it... The ultimate decision must be made by the women... Government should treat its citizens as adults capable of making moral decisions on their own." -- Fred Thompson, July 1994

Heres why I like Fred
1.) He has a 100% voting record for pro life.
2.) Marriage is between a man and a woman.
3.) Supports firearm ownership
4.) Tough on illegal immigration and voting record supports it
5.) Supports tax cuts

These are 5 things that I like so far. Im waiting to see more though.

He was my Senator when I was living in Tennessee. He really wasn't much of a standout in the Senate. His failed effort to implement substantive Election Contribution reform cost him. It was certainly the right thing to do, but in the end he paid a political price for it.

I think he's a decent man, but he's also an opportunistic politician. He's current behavior is certainly very telling. Either you really want to be president or you don't. How long should it reasonably take a person to decide that they want that honor???

He believes in a smaller government, strong national defense, less taxes, etc...

i.e. He's an actual Reagan conservative with a voting record to prove it, unlike the past two Republican presidents and the current herd of RINOS in the race.

They like him because he plays a tough DA on Law & Order, and cons are inherently unable to separate fantasy from reality - so they think that the character he plays is representative of the way he is personally.

I'm not kidding. Not even a little bit.

Fred Thompson is an actor, playing make believe roles. Conservatives also like to play make believe, such as pretending to be concerned about morality and compassion.

I guess that similarity is what draws some cons to Thompson.

He's an actor. That's all the info neo-cons need. Fred lobbied for abortion-rights groups when he left office.

He's white, conservative, Christian, and pro America. A breath of fresh air in the ranks of Godless, liberal, reformist, peacenik, minority loving, anti-American, anti-WASP, global warming believing candidates.

He's an actor so it reminds them of Raygun. They like actors, because their President has to be a good bull***tter.

He looks like a bulldog, and they think that he'll be as mean as one. They like mean.
