I'm 11 weeks pregnant. I've never really had nosebleeds before, and I've had 2 really bad ones in 2 months. Is this normal?

It's normal for your nasal passages to dry out and become sensitive during pregnancy, and your blood volume starts to go up, so blood vessels tend to break more easily. But do have your blood pressure checked just to be sure that it's not contributing to the problem. Sometimes elevated blood pressure tends to exacerbate a tendency toward nosebleeds. And if you bleed for more than 20 minutes or so, DO call your doctor.

Your nasal cavities may harden a bit and feel stiffer during pregnancy, as well as cause the occasional nosebleed. It's a normal and unfortunate part of being pregnant! If you have reoccurring nosebleeds more frequently than once or twice a month, I'd definitely consult your doctor. You probably want to bring it up at your next scheduled appointment, just in case. Just don't stress! It's usually just a normal side effect of impending motherhood.

Best wishes & congratulations!

Have you had your iron levels tested? If not, how do you know your levels are fine? It might not have anything at all to do with your pregnancy. There is a chance that it is coincidental, just happening around the same time. My husband had to have his nose cauterized. My husband gets nose bleeds a few times a week, and that's the only thing that will help him. By the way, meat has a lot of protein and fats that you need while pregnant... So make sure you're supplementing them somehow.

nosebleeds can be a symptom of pregnancy and yes they tend to usually start in or close to your second trimester. Other things may go away (m/s, fatigue) but new things will start. If they get really bad, talk to a doctor about it, they'll be able to answer this better than most of us.

They are due to the hormonal changes. Do not worry....it is a 'normal' side effect! :-)

As your pregnancy progresses, they should become less and less frequent.

I had nosebleeds when I was pregnant both times....and at no other time in my life.

NO nosebleeds are not "normal", it could be that you have really high blood pressure. Talk to your doctor,

Your blood volume doubles during pregnancy so this may be a cause. I would talk to your OBGYN or call and speak to a nurse in his/her office. If it's something to be checked out it's better to find out sooner than later. Your's and your babies health is most important. Congrats and I hope you have a happy and healthy baby!
