The only reason they are not going home is that they now realise they are not going to get the hero's welcome they once thought. I think they imagined thousands of people turning up at the airport, Beatles style, screaming for them. Now they have to face reality that the majority of people do not condone what was basically, child neglect and they don;t want to face it.

They need to go home and return the twins to a normal routine, they still have two kids left after all! The police will search for Madeleine, and half the world are looking out for her, there is nothing more they can do in Portugal.

Had they been decent parents in the first place and simply looked after their kids, they would not be going through this and neither would their daughter.

Saying what everybody thinks is not a "hate campaign". I note the British media is quick to point out that he is the lawyer "for the only suspect in the investigation". It's like identikit reporting.

Sick of the McCanns' control over the British press and wondering how we got to this? How one average couple can use the whole of the British media as their personal tool is beyond me. The only reasonable explanation I can give is that the British media and government is culpable for bullying themselves and if it turns out the McCanns and/or their friends are involved in the disappearance, they're going to have egg all over their faces. They're going to have to explain how hard they fought to defend the Adams when they were arrested in Florida - I think we need to talk a lot more about that 1999 case and shame the British press into doing their jobs and not backing bad causes just because the guilty happen to have British passports.

I wouldnt believe what a lawyer for the only official suspect has to say, he's only doing what he is paid to do and that is trying to sway public opinion in the event that his client is charged....

As for the McCanns...best they stay in Portugal untill all investigation have been done...untill proven otherwise they are guilty of neglect only, not murder or the concealing of an accidental death.

Its a sad day when a family who have lost a child are convicted of murder in the eyes of the world before any investigations have been completed. I am undecided and open minded as to their guilt and will offer them the basic human right of innocent till proven guilty. Neglect is a long long way from murder, and untill evidence to the contrary are found i feel we should at least not participate in a witch hunt of two people who may genuinly be grieving for the loss of a precious child.

I know that there have been cases of people who have made public appeals for the murderer of their child to come forward and it has later been proved that the parents were guilty...but equally there have been cases of parents being imprisoned for the murder of their child and then released years later after new evidence proved they were innocent... what can be worse than losing a child? being blamed for that childs murder when you are struggling with grief and the guilt of 'what if'

I will hold fire on any thoughts of their guilt and just pray that all is being done to find Maddie and whoever is responsible for her disappearance.

I think they have only stayed this long because they are afraid of the kind of welcome they are going to get when they get home. They have to know that public sympathy is not as they would like it to be. If they had shown one iota of emotion over their missing child instead of concentrating on setting up funds for donations people might feel more for them.
Even now in his blog Gerry never even speaks of his daughter fondly, only about the trivia of his day.
Don't get me wrong, I am very sad about what has happened to the little girl but feel that their place was at home allowing the police to investigate without the intrusion of the press etc.

Frankly, I wish they'd just go home and disappear off the radar.

Every time they appear on TV or radio, I get fed up with their constant whinging, and their insistence that they did nothing wrong beggars belief. They come across as so arrogant.

As for Robert Murat (and his mother), he was only trying to help. Look how far that got him.

I don't think its under Murat's lawyer's perview to tell the McCanns whether they should return home or not.
Most probably, he said this in this client's interest.

Hope is where the heart is and i believe Madeleine's parents can't bear to leave the country where they lost her.

The answer to your question is another question. Are the McCanns still in Portugal because they want to be or because the authorities want them to be?
