Go out in a field of wildflowers. There will be butterflies and grasshoppers everywhere. Go out in a rainstorm on your front porch and there should be several snails. Lizards, you're going to have to go out in a very COUNTRY-ish place, where it is damp and darkish, like in a canopied somewhat dried riverbed or riverside. Lift rocks and you should see newts and lizards. Frogs are just found at random at ponds.

Hold on, I just saw Jim's answer. I just thought I'd let you know that that ONLY referrs to mammals, such as deer and bears and boar and whatnot. That law couldn't be too enforced, because butterfly collecting (Catching, killing, pinning) is perfectly legal. You might wanna release the frogs and lizards after the project, however, as they are hard to take care of from scratch. Green anoles are good pet lizards, and you can feed them crickets.
It's legal to pick wildflowers, too, which makes plants all right. Just try to replant them in your garden or something. Some state wildflowers are not allowed to be picked, tho.

Be nice to the wild, don't destroy habitat. But as long as you know fully what your doing, I think you'll be fine. I've never heard that law. I think it's something made up, or hasn't yet been enforced for reptiles, crustaceans, and INSECTS.

I collect butterflies and moths.

Anyone that says insects are not animals obviously needs to go back to biology class. By the way not all living things are animals. Living things also includes monerans, protists, fungi, and plants. Insects are multicellular so they are not monerans or protist, Insects cannot make their own food, they are not plants. Insects don't have cell walls which both plants and fungi have. Insects are neither of these. That just leaves animals. Why would insects not be considered animals? If insects aren't considered animals than that means, crabs, spiders, centipedes, sponges, jellyfish or any invertebrates aren't considered animals either. Sorry too disappoint but all of these creatures ARE animals. Insects are animals period. They belong to the kingdom Animalia. Spider boy you need to go back to biology class. Having fur does not define an animal. The lack of a backbone does not define an animal either. Yes insects are arthropods but so are crabs, lobsters, spiders, centipedes and millipedes. And all these creatures also have no backbone. In fact there are more animals without backbone then are animals with backbone. Other animals without backbone includes, sponges, earthworms, octopuses, squids, clams, corals, and jellyfishes. So insects ARE animals. It is not an opinion. It is a complete fact. Science can back this up with all the facts. Taylor: I didn't rip anybody off. These anwers are mine and mine only.

I know this may come as a shock to you, but you cant go about catching and imprisoning animals. There are state and federal laws that protect ALL plants and animals. You must have permits or license to collect plants and animals. Collecting them for pets will not get you a permit.

These laws had to be enacted. Wildlife biologist and conservationist came to realize that human consumption of wild flora and fauna was and is still ruining our native species. Every year millions of animals die at the hands of people. And these aren't hunters taking game. These are people stealing wildlife from it's natural habitats.

Please, leave the wild to the wild.
