Former astronaut Lisa Nowak wants a judge to let her remove the ankle bracelet that allows authorities to track her as she awaits trial on suspicion of attacking a romantic rival, calling it expensive and unnecessary.

Nowak is paying $105 a week - $2,940 so far - for the monitoring device as a condition of her release, according to a court filing her attorney says was made Thursday. A clerk at the Circuit Court in Orange County could not find the filing, but said it could be on its way.

Nowak also argues that the device interferes with her ability to exercise - a requirement for a Navy officer - and her ability to drive, fly on a commercial airplane and monitor her children in the pool.

I think the key to the situation is that-- the lady agreed to the "tracker" as a condition to being freed on her "own recognizance". If the "tracker" is SO objectionable to her-- she should return to jail and have the jailers remove the device and then just sit quietly in her cell until her case comes to trial. I see this as an example of "wanting ones cake to be untouched while wanting to eat it right now!" You can't have both. She's where she is because of what she did. She needs to live with it as best she can because NOW is too late to change it.

I agree with Jack A.... except...

She's not wearing the darn thing because of something she did. She was in jail for something she is alleged to have done. But, as Jack pointed out, she opted for the device rather than have to sit in jail.

I believe jail kind of inhibits ones ability to exercise as required of a Navy officer, and ones ability to drive, or fly on a commercial plane, or monitor her kids in the pool. What it sounds like she wants now is total freedom.

Well, if this device has been a real "problem" for her
she is certain to have some MAJOR issues once she gets to prison !! That is going to bring an almost impossible situation when it comes to almost every single thing that she listed here -- with the exception of the "excercise thing" -- she'll have all the time in the world to "buff up" there !!!

They ought to install a "tracker" on her damned lawyer for bringing this crap up !!!

She has the right to have it removed any time she wants.

She would simply have to wait in jail for trial.
