Depending on where you live. I live in Iowa so an unmarried 23 year old would be absurd to by a house over $200,000. If you are married and plan on children AND you make a good living then no, this is not uncommon. I am 23 and $200,000 is quite a lot. If you do what I did, buy a cheaper place and redo the inside yourself.

You need to be sure you have all the information. Many 23 year olds are living in a home worth well over 200K because they finance the home. Having the home all paid off is another thing -- that would mean generating enough income to pay other bills in addition to the mortgage payments to pay off the entire home in about 5 years out of high school. The man would have to make at least about $85,000 per year realistically right out of high school to achieve this and be very frugile.

IT is possible for anyone over 18 years old to own property. Ask about the family and see if it was a family thing! My son owned his first property at 18. Mom's a REALTOR. WE do those things to our kids-His bank was very impressed when he applied for the next checking account and they asked the question rent or own! Be impressed that either this guy is one smart cookie or he had good advice. Easy to see if it's true: go to search and check for property appraiser website for your county! Search his address or name. There's your proof if that's what you need!

Depends on how responsible he is and if he makes enough money to pay the monthly mortage on a FIXED rate loan, put 20% down, has excellent credit.

Let's see you have three factors here to consider age, sex, and home ownership. 23 year old males on the whole........irresponsible. I was one too!! Home ownership, tremendous responsibility. Do banks lend to irresponsible people? Not usually.
