It could be a cold sore which IS a type of herpes. They are hereditary.

If it is a cold sore, it is a type of herpes. You could have gotten it from drinking after somebody else who had it. Not everyone that has it has outbreaks. Also, you may not have gotten it through sexual contact but genietal herpes can be spread through cold sores wheather or not you have a visible one. So keep that in mind when you do start getting active. But the chances are good that you do not have a cold sore. Moms usually know what they are talking about but if it doesn't go away after a week you should talk to your mom about seeing the doctor. Good luck, and make sure to get the chapstick with sunblock. SPF 5 is more than enough.

It sounds like herpes simplex type 1 which affects the mouth area - cold sores/ fever blisters/sun blisters. It's not to be confused with genital herpes.
Don't pick at it because it can spread. There is over the counter stuff for it to dry it up. Ask at the drugstore.I get them all the time if I don't wear a lip balm with SPF.

cold sore duh! everyone can get it. Your mom is right it might be from the sun heat.

Ice is a very good home remedy for cold sores. Rub ice on the infected skin for few minutes, repeat this every hour.

Apply a tea bag for few minutes on the blisters, repeat this every hour. One can also consider pressing a warm tea bag on the blisters for approximately 30 minutes.

Avoid acidic and salty foods. Foods such as chocolates, peanuts, grains, peas, seeds, oatmeal and whole-wheat are high in arginine, therefore they should be restricted. Avoid tea and coffee. Eat vitamin rich diet. Your diet must include vitamin A, C and E. Zinc and iron are also necessary. Include garlic in your diet. Eat fresh food with high antioxidants and high complex carbohydrates. Avoid processed food. Eat lots of fruits and green leafy vegetables.

Apply sunscreen cream on the susceptible areas. Never share your personal belongings like tooth brush with the infected person.

Herpes on the lip is just Fever Blisters... which has nothing to do with sex....

Try some Abrevia on your lips... if it is Fever Blisters it will heal quite quickly....
