Well, a species is considered something that can produce more of itself so the chicken would have to have been BORN as a new species once it could have been considered a chicken and then would start laying eggs of it's own species.
This would have to occur over hundreds of thousands of generations so it's really hard to say which chicken was the first chicken to be born. Like exactly where to draw the line from where you have a feathered dinosaur then something that looks kinda like a chicken. Something that looks a little more like a chicken and BAM... A chicken.
I think the only point of asking this question is to have people answer it.
You know, techincally speaking, a chicken egg is a chicken. It's just in it's first phase of development. It's still species=chicken even when it's in the egg. It can't become something it's not.
It was the chicken.

A chicken and an egg are in bed together. The chicken has a happy smile and is smoking a cigarette. The egg angrily grabs the blanket and rolls over on her side and says "I guess that answers that question!"

Well lets just go with the whole adam and eve theory to do with humans and just do the same thing for every other species in the world, saves us wondering hey. I mean where the hell did any animal come from, I'm sure theres a way to trace down evolution of everything but I can't be bothered. So there you go, God made one rooster, then he made a hen out of the roosters rib and they together made an egg. Chickens werent stupid enough to eat the apples and thats why they don't wear clothes just like all other animals.

the first was the chicken-egg. half chicken, half egg.
and the egg portion was located on the head of the chicken... so imagine a big white helmet on top of a beak.
i'm not sure how the rest follows... but thats how it started. i've done the research.

I agree. The chicken came first, otherwise how would the egg have gotten fertilized?
