I don't think these people realize that we have to put people first. They sit their and bash Vick for dog fighting while last night thousands of people in Africa probly died from hunger or preventable diseases. Believe me, i'm an animal lover too, but i never lose sight of what really matters... people. Another thing is, i don't understand how some people can have more compassion for some lost kitten wondering the streets than someone who's in agony starving to death somewhere in Africa... this world is really going to hell, man.

My point is that instead of using all their damn money to protect animals, it could instead be used to help feed and shelter those who are less fortunate that us. And believe me, there's a lot of 'em.

Comparing Breast cancer to heart disease is not nearly the same thing as comparing a human being to a cow. Don't even get me started, Evan.

Just because there's suffering going on in the world doesn't mean we have to ignore suffering going on right in front of us.
Peta does care about people; however for the life of me I don't quite understand why.
Why the hell don't the rich movie stars/athletes/musicians donate half of their income to Africa? They make millions and could wipe their asses with 100 dollar bills.

Well it sure would be nice if Vick spent some of that 100 mill contract fighting the sufferings of Africans instead of investing it into dog fighting! Do you think he cared about them?
For the life of me I don't understand how anyone can defend that man! If he was a poor man in slums of virginia just trying to make a meal for his family, maybe the general public could let him slide a little. But come on!!! He had a $100 million contract here in ATL, why was he dog fighting!!
Everyone has an issue that they feel passionately about, who are you to critisize what PETA feels passionately about, animals are the purpose for their cause. They are trying to prevent abuse and cruelty in a different manner. What cause was Vick about . . . just more $$$? Atleast they have a cause!
People DO matter most . . . but that doesn't mean that you should just ignore every other cruelty out there. Do you think the Government should let this issue go? We should all say, who cares that our wealthy star athlete Vick was torturing animals, people are suffering in the world.
Response to your edit: Couldn't we ALL be spending our money on something better. I KNOW Vick wasn't.

Not only in Africa, but many other places have starving homeless children and adults that need shelter, food, clothing. I don't value a animals life over a human. If I'm driving, and an animal crosses the street I'm not swaying away. I could end up causing a bad accident. I don't care for dogs at all. I think PETA should focus on more pressing things. I bet if we took a survey more then half of PETA probably eats the animals they protect. i doubt they are all vegans

That is like saying a group like NAACP are stupid. They spend all this money to help blacks get an education, but there are alot of white, hispanic, and asian people that need their help with tution. There are always going to be groups that are passionate about one thing, but that does not mean they are not caring about other things. Michael Vick is guilty of a heinous crime. He toture and killed dogs. Creatures that are loyal and loving. Trying to say that PETA is stupid because they care about animals, does not make Michael Vick any less guilty.

Activists generally have a cause. It isn't necessary to sacrifice the well-being of animals in order to preserve humanity. As a matter of fact, it will help us to treat animals less cruelly and recklessly. You might as well complain that breast cancer activists aren't paying enough attention to heart disease. There are enough people in the world to cover all the causes. The problem isn't too many people concerned about animals. It's too many people not concerned about anything.

I'm not a big fan of PETA, but they worry that not enough people worry about animals and that most humans can take care of themselves and there is already support for those who can't.

Well, if they subscribe to the logic that Mankind are nothing more than evolved chimps...they probably do care about people. Afterall, we'd just be big monkeys right?

If we waited for all the poor to be fed and sheltered before we did anything else, nothing else would get done.
Different people feel compelled to support different causes. It doesn't mean that they don't care about other causes. We all contribute to a better world in our own way.
