Well, with an income tax, both property taxes and sales taxes could be cut drastically. FL has some of the highest property taxes in the nation, along with other states that don't tax incomes such as NH & TX.

I live in MO. We have an income tax that caps out at 6%. My combined income and property taxes here are less than my property taxes alone in TX were. Nuff said?

Probably if Florida had a state income tax, all the elderly people would die of a heart attack at seeing what they would owe Florida. One of the things that Florida advertises is that they don't have a state income tax, there would go that incentive. Although, Florida could then possibly lower it's property and sales taxes, but I doubt it, the Florida politicians would just find something else to spend it on. Although if they spent it on bridge safety I'm sure not too many people would mind seeing their tax dollars go to help with that.

The only people a Florida state income tax would help are the politicians(They get to spend more money and they always love that!) and the income tax companies(Like H&R Block, because they make money filling out tax forms, so the more the better!).

That would be ridiculous! What would they use it for? To put more money in their pockets and continue to raise our property tax and insurance through Citizens? This state has become almost impossible for a middle class family to live in. We had to cancel our homeowners insurance because we couldn't afford to pull $3000 out of our butts. The property insurance is just as high. Then we sit back and wonder at the end of the year where all our money went. The last thing we need is a smaller paycheck from a state income deduction. It'll turn out to be like the Florida lottery. Is that money REALLY going back into education? I think not as when I got my kids' school schedules we were asked to pay all of these lab fees at a PUBLIC school! Does anybody else in another state get socked over $100 when handed their regular class schedule? At the same time are you paying ALOT in property taxes which includes over $600 for schools? Where's that money going? Our schools are so overcrowded now.... No more taxes!

The state I live in has a huge income tax (compared to most other states) and I don't see it as any better than other states with lower or no income tax. So, I'd say no - less tax is better.
