What a shame you do not like the Kite Runner, I foiund it a very uplifting book.

However, if you just do not enjoy it, an alternative book will depend a lot on your own tastes.

Of those you list, most are fairly serious books. If you want some lighter holiday reading, I would suggest The Accidental Tourist or Like Water For Chocolate.

Of the two, The Accidental Tourist is the most light hearted, in fact it is perfect holiday reading :-)

Most of these are classics and most are sort of negative too.. So I would say go with A Farewell To Arms....

The Kite Runner is suppose to be very good......

Please try to finish the Kite Runner. It was a very powerful, and yes sometimes depressing, book. But well worth the read. Most of the books you have listed in your question are decent reads.

a lot of these are emotional, but "cry the beloved country" and "the power of one" are really good. in fact, i borrowed the latter from ym ex before we broke up and when we did the awkward return of each others stuff, all he wanted was the book.
