Fix the 3rd-world infrastructure:
1. Switch to 220V and reduce energy losses by 25%.
2. Build a unified power grid and get rid of blackouts.
3. Fix the 100-year old water mains and sewers.
4. Make better bridges.
5. Start building better and wider public transportation.
Well, that's what have been done in USSR in 1960-80s.
Man, today in our city 60000 households lost power because the storm hit those ugly hanging wires.

I read an interesting article that said that CSP (concentrating solar power) plants set up across an area equal to 9% of the land in Nevada would provide enough electricity to meet the demands of the entire United States. I've wondered how far what we're spending on Iraq would go toward paying for something like that.
One 64-megawatt plant that is currently under construction will produce enough electricity for 40,000 homes. Every 1,000 megawatts of CSP could power 750,000 homes.

We could have made Social Security financially solvent for all time - with plenty to spare for infrastructure, education, and even universal medical coverage. Then the cons would be writing your question, complaining that the money should gone for a stupid war on the other side of the world where no one could see them stuffing their pockets...

We could have bought desktop PCs for every 11th grade classroom AND laptops for them to take home, and rebuilt Newark, NJ and rebuilt New Orleans, LA and bought a new car for every left-handed girl in Idaho and still have enough left over to feed 10000 hungry kids in Applachia.

Well, the liberals could have formed another social program that rewards people for not working removes those rewards if they go back to work.
And providing free abortions for 13 year olds without informing the parents.
And funding wonderful artwork which depicts a statue of Mary sculpted out of dung - or a photograph of a crusifix in a glass of urine.
Does that sound good to you?
We need to stop electing those who waste out money - whether they have an (R) or a (D) by their name!

That's a ridiculous argument and you know it. In America our elected officials can bring any bill up to be voted on by Congress and allocate taxpayer funds accordingly. Those same elected officials (most of which currently are democrats) have approved war funding (a neccesity to protect the lives of those fighting). What really is your problem? The fact no one wants to support your ideas financially, or the fact that we fund our troops?

Isn't that the entire budget for the Department of Defense? If so without it DoD could not exist . Without DoD we would be so vulnerable that we'd end up with no money at all.

As a conservative, I'm not as gifted as you libs at finding a million ways for the government to spend Americans' money! How about along with energy research we can throw tens of millions at the genetic development of a money bearing tree. Wait! I'm catching on! This is fun! I like being a liberal!
