No, but you will have to go in person to your local SS office and show proof of identity. You will be given a receipt that states that you have applied for the card, but it cannot be used to apply for employment. It takes about two weeks to receive your card in the mail. One thing you must know is that you can only receive 10 cards in your entire life. So, you cannot just lose them every year and expect to get one forever. If you reach the 10th card issued to you, you cannot get another one. You must not laminate your card and should keep one with you and one at your home in a safe place that you will remember where it is in case your wallet or purse is lost or stolen. You cannot get one online or from the post office, however you can apply for a passport at the post office.

no u can go to the social security near where ur staying at now. fill out an application to replace ur card. and they will mail it to ur address that u list on the app.
