i know they both sell motherboards and graphics cards under the geforce series

Actually nVidia just designes the GPU, it is the other companiest that actually make the graphics cards, EVGA is one of them. Same deal with motherboards, nVidia designs the chipsets and then other companies manufacture the motherboards. Keep in mind, EVGA does more than just overclock something nVidia manufactured, they do the actual manufacturing using nVidia designed technology.

NVidia is the company that actually designs and manufactures the graphics cards; they then let a bunch of other companies overclock the cards (make them faster than their original specifications) and slap their names on the boxes. EVGA is one of those companies that does the overclocking, and they also produce other computer components.

It depends on the model of video card, not just the manufacturer, although people certainly have their favorites.
Evga tends to be a bit cheaper than Nvidia, but I know several people who have had them and liked them.
