All the cylinders are under the same head, and why don't they spell it lahncha? Do they know how many people call that car a land-see-er?

Hi there, you're quite write about the single cylinder head configuration but because the pairs of pistons and rods come off the crank at different trajectories, unlike an in-line engine, it is classified as a narrow angle V. It is a compact work of art however you look at it. 90 BHP from an 1960's 1300 with twin Solex carbs is damn good going. As for the 1600, up to 160 BHP in the Fanalone rally car. Being a language philistine I was one of those people who pronounced it 'lan-see-a' until friend from Naples told me the correct pronounciation and I've never looked back.

The Lancia V4 isn't really a V cylinder layout.

And they spell it "Lancia" because that's the name that was decided by the founders whenever the company was formed.

It's a Narrow angle V, only 10 degrees, so they use a single cylinder head with offset chambers. Thats why it's called a V, because it is.

And it's called Lancia because the founder is Vincenzo Lancia.

Why would they spell it lahncha? It's pronounced larn-see-a.

It is a form of V - a narrow angle V, similar to the VR6 / V6 found in some modern VWs.

It is spelt "Lancia", as that was the founder's surname, and pronounced "Lan-chee-ah", because that is how "Lancia" is pronounced in Italy, where the company was founded.
If it was spelt "Lahncha" it would be pronounced "lahn-ka" as that is how "Lahncha" would be pronounced in Italian.
