I do agree with many of the response on this thread that Boston and the Lakers have the best team in terms of talent, depth, and star power so these 2 teams should meet in the finals. In order to get a better picture of which team would come out victorious, we need to break this matchup down by positions.

L.A. Lakers
PG - Magic Johson / Gary Payton
SG - Kobe Bryant / Jerry West
SF - Elgin Baylor / Lamar Odom
PF - Karl Malone / James Worthy / Sam Perkins
C - Wilt Chamberlin / Kareem Abdur-Jabbar / George Mikan / Shaquille O'Neal

Boston Celtics
PG - Bob Cousy / Nate Archibald
SG - John Havlicek / Ray Allen
SF - Larry Bird / Paul Pierce
PF - Kevin McHale / Kevin Garnett
C - Bill Russell / Dave Cowens / Bill Walton / Robert Parish

Point Guard
Laker's tandem of Magic Johson / Gary Payton vs. Boston's Bob Cousy / Nate Archibald should be a good match but in the end, the Lakers should win due to Magic's ability to find out the open man on offense and the Glove's ability to shut down the opposing point guard on defense.

Ede: Lakers

Shooting Guard
The Lakers should have no problem taking the shooting guard match as Kobe Bryant / Jerry West would be too much offensive production and clutch performance for Boston's tandem of John Havlicek / Ray Allen.

Edge: Lakers

Small Forward
Boston's pair of Larry Bird / Paul Pierce should be able to take out the Laker's Elgin Baylor / Lamar Odom with ease. Bird's clutch performance combined with Pierce's all-around skill should give the Celtics an edge at this position.

Edge: Celtics

Power Forward
The Lakers Karl Malone / James Worthy / Sam Perkins trio matches up pretty well against Boston's Kevin McHale / Kevin Garnett so I'll call this matchup a wash.

Edge: Even

Center

The hardest match comes at center position where both, the Celtics and the Lakers lineup feature a list of HoF. Boston's 4 centers Bill Russell / Dave Cowens / Bill Walton / Robert Parish were great centers in their playing days but it's highly unlikely that they would be as dominant as the Lakers 4 centers tandem of Wilt Chamberlin / Kareem Abdur-Jabbar / George Mikan / Shaquille O'Neal. Even the great Bill Russell will have a difficult time trying to slow down Wilt, Shaq, and Kareem. This matchup should favor the Lakers the most.

Edge: Lakers

So it seems like the Lakers win the point guard, shooting guard, and center match while Boston takes the small forward bout. The 2 teams come to a draw at the power forward position. Since L.A. is controlling the PG, SG, and C duties, which features 2 of the most important position in basketball, the Lakers have a major advantage. They have a quality floor general who can run the offense and find easy shots for his teammates. They also have dominant center who can anchor the middle and terrorize opponents in the paint on offense. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have MJ clone at shooting guard to wreck more havoc on the Celtics.

The power forward matchup didn't really yield a winner and that goes to show how much depth the Laker's All-Time team would have. The only advantage Boston has is it's small forward matchup but how much of that is going to make a difference when the Celts are getting beat at the other positions. The Lakers are just too dominant at all the positions and it will take more than the Boston's great lineup to overcome it. My money is on Magic Johnson winning the MVP because he will be the Laker's primary floor general and also the one making all the decisions on offense and who gets the ball. The Lakers centers will all end up splitting minutes and that should cut into their productivity while Magic should have no problem playing as many minutes as his body can handle.

I would be in a split between the Bulls and the Celtics... The Bulls have some of the all time greats but the Celtics have brought in 16 championships and never with that GOOD of a lineup.. I would have to say the Celtics. Russell and Garnett would become one of the greatest pst threats ever, Bob Cousy and and Allen would become a great back court, and the middle would be taken by Larry Bird who is balance in almost every stat. The MVP would probably be MJ or Magic.
The two teams who would meet in the finals would probably... from the East it would be the Celtics in a hard fought 7 game series against Jordan and the Bulls. The West would be the Spurs I think.. The Spurs today are some of the most team oriented players I've ever seen and all the Lakers seem to have is a team full of scorers and no role players. I think the Celtics would win in the Finals in a 6 game series and Bill Russell will be finals MVP.

It's Celtics Vs Lakers, and it's not even close. all the other teams have no hope.
It's tough, because the Celtics have had more great players, but it's really hard to argue with a team that can put Shaq, Wilt and Kareem on the floor. Along with Kobe, Jerry West, Magic, and then you're saying I can have Karl Malone and Gary Payton at their peaks? I guess that means Dennis Rodman, Mitch Richmond and Glen Rice as well? And then James Worthy? And George Mikan? And Willis Reed? Elgin baylor? Gail Goodrich? Oh man....

Vs

Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, Robert Parish, Sam Jones, John Havlicek, Bill Sharman, Dave Cowens, JoJo White, Tom Heinsohn, Tom Sanders, K.C. Jones, Paul Pierce, Ed Macauley, Nate Archibald, Dennis Johnson, Reggie Lewis, Kevin Garnett, Bill Walton, Ray Allen, and um... Gary Payton? (And maybe soon Reggie Miller.)

I'm drooling at the prospect...

Does that mean we can have Red Aurbach matching up with Phil Jackson and Pat Riley as coaches?

The winning team will be the Lakers... Just. Just. Kareem wins it with a skyhook.
MVP Jerry West.

Great question! I am a Jordan fan from his first college game on...but, I think the Celtics have the most balanced arsenal of all time and if Chamberlain could not match up with Russell then Kareem has no chance. But if I try to get Mike on my team (Washington), then I can get Earl Monroe, Elvin Hayes, Moses Malone, Gus Johnson...then I am liking my chances! Michael Jordan is the MVP and Washington beats Boston in seven as MJ shoots a three as the clock expires and ruins Larry Bird's 44 point night...I can dream right?

I think it would be the Lakers, Magic as MVP because unless Wilt played a lot of PF He, Kareem and Shaq would have to share minutes. Do not think that Shaq could play PF and Kareem no way. E. Baylor get a lot playing time at SF and West as an OG and backing up Magic at the point as well. And how about Bob MacAdoo filling it up he might be the leading scorer.

Hey heres a crazy thought but how about the Bucks with Kareem, Oscar Robertson, Alex English, Terry Cummings, Bob Dandridge, Jack Sikma, Bob Lanier, Lucious Allen. Alvin Robertson, Sidney Moncrief, Quinn Buckner, Dave Cowens, Dale Ellis, Moses Malone, Elmore Smith, Michael Redd and Ray Allen. Some great defenders among them, and play Malone and Cowens ar PF with Kareem at center and they could rebound with anyone, a wealth of high scoring wing players including The Big O and English. I am convincing myself.

Lakers v, Bucks

I will say Jordan will win MVP and the Lakers would win it all because the rosters you guys are showing the Lakers are deep they . the Bulls would play them in the finals.Man you could have Shaq and Chamberlain on the floor at the same time Jordan and company could not stop the fantasy "Twin Towers" and Kareem with Magic and Kobe in the back court they are unstoppable that's my opinions

Phoenix
Steve Nash, Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd, Stephon Marbury, Penny Hardaway, Jeff Hornacek, Grant Hill, Danny Manning, Charles Barkley, Tom Chambers, Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire

New Orleans (Hornets team used to reside in Charlotte but later moved to New Orleans)

Indiana
Jamaal Tinsley, Mark Jackson, Reggie Miller, Stephen Jackson, Ron Artest, Chris Mullin, Peja Stojakovic, Detlef Schrempf, Dale Davis, Jermaine O'Neal, Rik Smits

If I had to choose from this list, I would probably go with Portland. Their lineup is just straight up nastee. Too much depth and too much talent.
