yesterday i had to go to the hospital to check if i was already dilated as i was had back pains and my lower abdomen was hurting, they said i had a 1 cm opening. Two days ago i went o the doctor and she said the baby's head was already engaged...This morning i woke up feeling like i'm going to have my period...both my legs are a bit numb and i have a lower back pain much like when you're going to have dysmennorhea. I also have brown mucus like discharges.
My question is, is this normal?, Am i going to go into labor soon?, what are these brown discharge i'm seeing?

If its just brown mucus like the end of a period, consult your doctor. It could be bleeding. If its mucus that has brown streaks or tinges to it and is really thick and stringy then its most likely your mucus plug coming out. This means your uterus is preparing for labour, but it could still be a couple of weeks away. Lower back pain, leg pain, groin pain, can all be signs of very very early labour or just end of pregnancy pains that a lot of women get at the end. There is a lot of pressure down there now and its not so comfortable anymore. If the pain gets worse, regular or discharge doesn't stop within 24hrs then call the midwives at the hospital and explain it to them. they will be able to tell you what to do.
Matter of fact, I would ring them today and let them know. They are in the best place to tell you if you need to go in for a check.

It sounds like you are going to have your baby soon, the brown mucus is blood mixed with mucus. What happens is when the cervix starts to open the mucus plug starts to come out and usually labor is close. You have nothing to worry about, its safe to have the baby up to three weeks prior to due date. I am 37 weeks today and have mild discomfort in my lower abdomen and lower back and have had this feeling for a couple of days now. When I saw my doctor last week I was told that the baby's head was engaged but my cervix was still closed. You are just a few days further along than I am, I wish you luck and a safe delivery.
