The door panels keep popping off because the row of wooden slats at top of panel are broken and cannot latch properly with the metal door clips. I obviously do not want to buy new panels for each door. Any suggestions to get latched properly? It is a 1995 BMW 318i

Try using a good strong double sided tape (commonly called "moulding tape") or use some Blu-Tack.

yes some of the fit and finnish on the early e 36 models was very poor, and on my 94 318i it's not only the top of the panel thats loose it's all those little white clips too.on my car i think the main problem is that when the window goes up it pushes out the top of my panel,i think i'm going to start with trying to adjust my my window so it doen't try to roll up so much.when i take the door panel off and watch while closing my window i noticed the whole mechanisim torque and push in toward the panel.I went and bought a new panel at first but it did the same thing.

I have the same problem on my 94 325i. I have not done it yet, but my plan is to epoxy a thin metal strip on the underside of the panel to replace the fiber. The metal reinforcing strip from a windshield wiper rubber insert should work. It needs to be thin but strong.

I tried fixing this by just epoxying the broken fiber with no metal, it broke shortly thereafter....
