The price of a new iMac is pretty steady no matter where you buy it, unless it is stolen. Different sellers offer different bonuses to sell you one. You might get a free iPod, or a free printer or free software. This site has current Mac prices and offers:

Unfortunately, Apple keeps pretty tight control over their products' pricing, even when sold through retailers like Best Buy, so aside from going to the refurbished section of Apple's online store (which wouldn't be new) or going to a place like eBay (which is sort of risky and you've already said you're not looking at that option), there's not much you can find in the way of discounts on *brand-new* machines. Unless there's a place I haven't heard of yet that gets away with it.

No such thing as a cheap Mac computer. Apple's computers are ridiculously overpriced. If you wait some time, maybe two months, and then go to an Apple store, you can get the most discounts there. The reason for this is no online charges like shipping because you carry it home and Apple knows they are getting 100% of the money from it because it's their store and they don't need to give some money to the store like if they sold it in Bestbuy.

Apple JUST came out with a new model of iMac, with newer graphics cards, and a thinner case made from aluminum. I'm not sure if you want to find this new model of Mac, or simply by a cheap non-used Mac?

Apple controls the price of their products and only allow the resellers to mark down a percentage that they decide.
They have ALWAYS done this.

Craigslist.com has a computer section where people sell their computers. You can search by area so you can meet them in person. And there is no point in buying a brand new PC. Deals are so much better used and they are cheaper.
