If business could be trusted to treat employees fairly then we would not need them but that has never happened so Unions exist, Corrupt, and self serving yes, just like businesses they bargain with. but at least they have gotten workers better pay and some better benefits than otherwise to be expected.

unions can become corrupt and have a history of mob involvement...but...without banding together, workers have no way to set a fair wage system, manage a safe work place, and protect them from any abuse by the owners or managers....yes there has been mob influence, but on the flip side, is a corrupt abusing employer any better....people have the right to choose and a right to assemble together to protect themselves....remember, what you have today can be taken away

I think unions WERE great. They gave us the 40 hour work week along with a host of other benefits for the working class. However, I did once hold a union job (you got to be part of the union after 6 months), and I noticed having the union made my co-workerss a bunch of whiny babies. However, my boss one day decided she hated me, made my life miserable, and then fired me before I got to have union representation. That woman was a f*cking c*nt. She was so mean to me I resorted seeing a psychiatrist, and I was doubling up on my anti-depressants. I have a very bitter view of unions now since I had to pay them dues during my employment at that awful job, but didn't get squat out of it when I needed help. I just had to take the abuse and no one cared.

They are a business like any other. They need to collect dues so they can function.

Back in the 20's and 30's when employers abused employees, they were needed. We have laws now that protect employees, pay over time, etc.

They should be forbidden to support any political party.

They should work for the workers best interests who are directly affected. No nationalized or allied unions.

Union member for life.

If not for unions, what would the work environment be like? We would still be working in asbestos factories.

When they're run correctly they're good and in most cases necessary.

The union leaders got too powerful and that's when trouble happens.

I love the response you gave and admire you for being so knowledgeable, considering your age.

It's a shame that they became so corrupt. I've dealt with unions in the past, and YIKES! For so many of us, it really left a bad taste in our mouths. :)

Good luck to you. I think that you'll go far in life.

Unions are a middle man. I don't pay people to take my wages while they get rich never getting their hands dirty with real work.
