My experience it's cheaper to stay downtown in some place like the Plaza, Las Vegas Club, California, Main Street Station, Golden Nugget, Fitzgerald's, Lady Luck, Fremont, and the like. That's where the Fremont Street Experience light show takes place, and they run shuttles from their to the track.

If you don't have your race tickets I would check with some of the Casino's for package deals. If you want to stay on the strip I would try one of the harrahs property's such as Caesars, Bally's, Rio etc. They should have package deals including room, transportation and some times meet and greets with drivers.
If you would prefer off the strip try Sam's Town. They normally sponser the Busch Race on Saturday and should also have some good packages. Definately take advantage of some type public transportation to the track. They usually let the buses and cabs cut thru Nellis AFB to get to the track. Much quicker than fighting the traffic yourself.
I went this year and stayed at Caesars. Although my package was all complimentary :) I would think they will offer a similiar package for purchase. My package included Race Tickets for the Cup race, a meet and greet with 5 drivers, transportation, 4 day's and 3 nights in a deluxe room, some meals, and discounted tickets to the Busch Race.
Make sure and take a light jacket and catch one of the early shuttles to the track. It will be cool in the morning but will warm up quckly. Drinks are expensive at the track I would consider carrying a cooler.
Most of the Drivers, Owners, Crew, Etc. will be staying on the strip. I met Richard Petty at Harrahs playing slots. Saw Mike Helton at Caesars wanering around looking lost, and several others at various places in the day's leading up to the Race.
Good Luck and Have Fun.
See you at the Race.

Usually no shuttle to the race the hotels do not really recognize nascar/racing here. Your best bet is a place called emerald green it it right next to the track and decent accomodations but not the best in town by any means. But you know what they say you should not spend a whole lot of your time in the room here.

If you want close to the speedway, then the speedway hotel casino (Ramada Inn) is right down the road from the track. It is the nearest hotel to the track. I stayed there last Feburary. They have decent rooms, a good resturant & Bar, and small but nice Casino.

the speedway hotel or the cannery are close by. the cannery is a casino/hotel, so you may have more fun staying there. sometimes the traffic going towards the speedway is ridiculous so i recommend you staying closer to the speedway and not stay on the strip... the drive from the strip to the speedway could take forever.
the cannery is 10 minutes away.

station casinos have lots of $29.00 deals off season.
There's the extended stay type motel/hotels all over town.
go to www.vegas.com for your search. It will be helpful.
The earlier you book the cheaper your room.
