For example, I know that I have a toshiba satellite laptop, but if I am looking to purchase compatible stuff, how do i find out exactly what i've got?? as far as 6100 or 5920 - i just made those up, but any help . . .

Click Properties

There is usually a model number on the back (or bottom) of a computer.

Software wise, you can open the Control Panel (Windows OS) and open SYSTEM and that will tell you something.

Also, you can click START, select RUN, and type in DXDIAG. This will give you some info too.

You can usually look up the model number.

In addition, I have some programs that can identify every piece of hardware in my computer, even my motherboard. So even if I didn't know what KIND of computer it was, I would know what was IN it.

evil_Rondy is the only one that knows what he is talking about............take his advice......and try looking where the key board is, if you still have the product stickers that gives you some description of the laptop then the model number
