Journalism etiquette with books?

I am writing an article and can not get in touch w/ the author. I was wondering if I can use parts of the book in quotations or w/e as long as I give credit to the author?

That sounds fine. Give the full title and author's name in the story, and you shouldn't have a problem. Just don't go overboard on it, as a quote or two in a story is plenty.
