O gosh, there are so many great authors.
My all time favorite must be Lewis Carroll. I love him and I think apart of literature died with him that has yet to be rediscovered.
I'm sure this has been said a few times now, but JK Rowling. Not only is she a fantastic author, she is down to earth and has a great personality.
Jane Austen. I'm sure thats been said a few times, too. The thing is she just lead such an interesting life, and because she made some of the most classic books ever.
Lemony Snicket because his humor has made it's way into a bestselling book turned movie, he really has a way with wordplay.
There are plenty of good books I've read, but only a few authors can recreate that again and again.

It's a toss up between three favorites actually... but since I know you're a big fan of funny, I'll say Terry Pratchett. Easily one of the funniest writers of fantasy fiction on the planet.
(The other two are Neil Gaiman and Orson Scott Card.)

Zane...she's an African American author. She writes a lot of books that are about romance and tend to have a lot of erotic parts throughout the novels.
